Hi all,
I need to move the system databases from a SAN drive (E) to a local drive (D). This is a brand new server (sql server 2000), with no one using the Instance I have created, so no backups etc running either.
I am following the procedures outlined in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224071
When I try to put a trace flag on the instance (-c -m -T3608), I get an error message as follows:
17050 :initerrlog: Could not open error log file 'e:.......\ERRORLOG'. Operating system error = 32(error not found).
My userid is an administrator on the server.
I have Googled and Googled, and am all Googled out....
Any ideas much appreciated.....:D

I discovered that the article I was using (the Microsoft KB article that is....) is incorrect.....
The following article http://www.myitforum.com/articles/18/view.asp?id=4077 is pretty close. It has the following statement "the order of re-attachment must be model first and then msdb", and then proceeds to give instructions for moving the msdb database, then the model database....
Anyway, all sorted.....:D

Even though it was successfull , I would like to know why do you want to move the system databases?
Microsoft does not support this.

What do you mean MS does not support the move of the system databases? They have articles that instruct you on how to do it! :w00t:
