I agree with all the other replies.
This returns 65 not 97!
Another frustrating QOTD with a wrong answer.

Or was it the wrong question?

Interestingly, the "explanation" says "You can run this code. (blah blah) An upper case 'A' is 65. Same as ASCII." Yet the correct answer is listed as "This returns 97."
Bad QotD!

Yes, we all know this by now and it was a simple mistake.

I agree. I don't undertand why some peoples get so upset and frustrated by simple stuff like this. Whilst I think it is just a bit of fun really, it also a great way of learning new things about SQL server which you might not think about otherwise. Sometimes, when the question or answer is not quite right, you get to learn more when you test stuff out and check it. So what if sometimes the QotD is "not quite Production ready"?

The people who complain the loudest have never submitted their own QOTD either. Then they complain about missing points...of course the complaining actually gets them their "unfairly missed" points. GGGRRRR!!!!! The points on this site don't mean anything. All it means is that you have posted more than somebody else big deal. The number of points does NOT mean you have exceptional knowledge, it means you post an exceptional amount.

Precisely. It's a quick, fun thing to do every day, but the real point is that I sometimes learn new things from them. On some, like any other forum question, the discussion is sometimes where the real learning occurs.

Thank you Steve for an exciting finish to a dull week. All these responses... I can only imaging what would happen if the question was worth 7 points instead of 1. Oh well, today you get awarded an "a" for the effort.:hehe: And now back to your regular program...

LOL. You would think that after spending 5 days in New Orleans for Jazz Fest work would be less stressful...it seems to have had the opposite effect. Maybe it is because we got rained out for Jazz Fest.

Yeah! Like that poster who has gone back and commented all the QotD from 2004 onwards 🙂

It's funny that you should ask what would happen if the question were worth 7 points. When I read the question, my first thought was: "If I have to chose two answers, I should get two points. After all, it's twice the effort." (:
That being said, I look forward to the QotD for fun, not rewards. This one has been a lot of fun. I would gladly "sacrifice" the point for this level of discussion.
Great job, Steve.
