Hi Everyone and happy Christmas!
I have a question,
My University uses Oracle and all my database modules are in Oracle but I am thinking about learning SQL Server and using it in my final year project as there seems to be a lot more SQL Server jobs out there (development and dba) would you agree with this trend? (UK)
Thanks,
Mike

Haypp Christmas,
From job perspective it is probably a benefit knowing more than 1 database. SQL Server is easier to administer as it comes with various tools to do so (and you have SSC)
Smaller firms tend to have SQLServer or mysql as databaseplatform as they can managed by an accidental dba, oracle seems to be more complex to maintain. Mostly xxxx years of experience isn't required for the job.
Bigger firms usually have a mix of databaseplatforms like Oracle+MSSQL.
Maybe Oracle specialist earn more because there are fewer of them?

Hi again,
I like the look and feel of SQL Server 2008 so I think I will use that in my final year project!
Is it possible to mirror a local database to an online one? I'm thinking about having an administration program written in C# linked to an ASP website where the databases are synchronised
Many thanks

Hi,
Basically I would like the local database (controlled through a windows application) to update an online database whenever I make any changes
Many thanks
