Montioring using Guardium SQL Guard or other similar products

  • I'm a system DBA for a large company.  We have approx 20 SQL Servers at our central computer facility.  There are many other SQL Servers throughout the enterprise.

With the advent of SOX, and just overall security awareness, it's been presented to us that we should evaluate Guardium Inc's "SQL Guard" to monitor all SQL Servers in the Enterprise.  Has anyone used the product, or something similar?  If so, what did you find?

    Thanks,

Ben Reeder - Deere and Company SQL Server DBA

  • Sorry, not anywhere near SOA (Sarbanes - Oxley - Act) yet. Do we have to?

  • I have not heard anything about SQL Guard but I am interested in thoughts if you give it a test run.  I am about to check out Lumigent's ENTEGRA product.  I will try to post some feedback after I have evaluated it.  Good Luck!

I have a similar problem. It has to be instlled ny a "Admin" on the server, however you can set it to notify via email any alerts and or problems..... or anything you can think of.

Auditing and Continuous Compliance for SQL Server

Designed in partnership with major auditing firms and leading security experts, Idera's SQL compliance manager provides a powerful auditing and compliance solution for Microsoft SQL Server users. SQL compliance manager provides: low overhead data collection, a central repository of audit data, a central management console, pre-defined compliance reports, an auditors console for ad-hoc queries, reporting and forensic analysis, and efficient, secure data archival. If you are tasked with ensuring compliance to external standards such as Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA, HIPAA, Basel II, need to meet the requirements of internal auditors, or simply need to feel comfortable with your database security model, then SQL compliance manager is an essential component of your SQL Server management infrastructure.

  • Sounds like a great product, I'm looking forward to testing it out on our servers.  The sales rep I spoke with at the SQL Server 2005 roadshow says it won't ready for download for another 60-90 days.

  • You can download Imceda's auditing solutions now. Go to http://www.imceda.com and take a look at SQL Watch and SQL Forensics.
