I am after people opinions on using Oracle Grid to monitor SQL Server instances, in particular from people who use it or have used it previously.
Good,Bad, Ugly all welcome. I know there are dedicated SQL Server monitoring tools out there like IDERA and Redgate's SQL monitor but please humour me.
Thanks

In my opinion the real value of using Oracle Grid to monitor SQL Server in an Oracle/SQL Server mixed shop is that by doing so DBAs are able to work on a same look-and-feeling environment no matter to what they are pointing at.
Please note that this is specially true for environments that let's say have a 75%+ Oracle databases - in such environment you usually find more Oracle than SQL Server DBAs so by using Oracle Grid you are increasing your ability to support SQL Server. Oracle DBAs will find much more easy to look at SQL Server issues if they are working on a known platform.
Here is a short document by Oracle on that matter http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/ds-sql-160806.pdf

Ah, the memories.
I worked on trying to get SQL Server to show up on grid for months. Even with Oracle's help, we never got it working. I installed the necessary drivers and agents. Grid found the server but could never connect to the instance and monitor the instance.
It was a problem with the jdbc drivers or something. Not sure, never got it working. Always a headache. If it did work, it would have been cool... if it worked.
This was with Grid Control 10g (if i remember correctly) and SQL Server 2008.

Paul, that was the thinking, a shop asked me about using ORACLE Grid for monitoring, they are mainly an Oracle shop and need people to cross skill into SQL Server. So in theory it does sound like a practical approach. From Calvo's post and some others I have seen when I asked the question on twitter it seems that in practice it is not as straight forward to configure and setup as we would like... I guess I will have to try and give it whirl and see for myself.
If anyone has anything further to add I'd really appreciate your responses
