Monitoring replication?

    We have just set up our first client that uses our system throughout Europe. Currently we have merge replication with one subscriber but will extend to several within the next few months.

    What's the best way to monitor replication? We are fairly new to this.

    Also, would it be better if our distributor was on separate server to the publisher?

    Regarding Distributor on a separate server, that is what MS recommends. Sharing the resource with the publisher is not a good idea.

    Regarding monitoring, You are asking if there is a way to get alerted if something goes wrong? You can use the Replication monitor to set up the Warnings and Alerts.
