I apologize if this has been asked a million times, searching the terms 'model','database' and 'recovery' yields a billion results about general recovery models.
My question is this: Why is the model database's default recovery model full? Is there any harm to switching this database? I understand its the model for new database creation, so I would assume there would be little regular activity against this database.

Model is the template for a new database, so, if you don't like it in full recovery, change it to simple recovery.
No harm: it's your choice.

I do this on all shared sandbox instances where devs have sa and regularly create databases.

bear in mind that as model is used a s the template for database creation, if you change the model database to simple recovery model all new databases will be created with recovery mode = simple by default, unless you explicitly state otherwise.
This might not be what you want in a production environment.
