Hi Guys, a quick question i need help with before i go see the server team...
We currently have a 3 active/ 1 passive mixed version cluster
node 1 = 2005 (new)
node 2 = 2000
node 3 = 2005
node 4 - passive
Current Failover:
Node 1 and 3 fails over to node 4
Node 2 fails over to node 3 (node 4 did not prev exist as we had active/active)
We would like to add a new sql 2005 node - say node 5, and then have all nodes 1, 2, 3 and 5 failover to node 4. so we would have a 4 active / 1 passive mixed version cluster.
Is this possible? What steps and issues are there?

It is possible, provided the OS is Windows 2003 ( supports max 8 nodes)
But one question is your Node 4 built with specs that might hold all of the 1,2,3 and 5th node if all were to fail. If the answer if YES then go ahead. If the answer is no then go for
4(active)+2(passive) clustering.
Thanks!!

yes win2003.
no we expect 1 or 2 at max on failover node then we initiate our DR senario....although we had san disk failure the other day which did afffect 2 nodes alone (so far we have never had a situation where 3 nodes have failed...! FLW!)
I did read though that ms states that once you have installed 2005 within the cluster you then cannot install sql 2000 or sql 2000 failover node, is that right? we want to move failover of 2 to 4 you see? which is the 2000 node
thanx
