We have SQL Server 2005 sp2 installed and I am finding it VERY DIFFICULT to get anyone to answer this question. When we go to Open New Project in the Business Intelligence Module, it appears that all the project templates are MISSING, including the one for SSIS. The installation of SQL 2005 went in without any error and was a FULLY licensed Enterprise Edition.
What do I need to do to get these project templates/SSIS templates?
Do I need to just run a portion of the SQL 2005 installation again, hopefully not the entire thing!!!
Thanks, Eve

Hello
Did you every find out what happened to the missing templates? I have the Orcas beta 3.5 VS installed locally and then installed SQL2005 Standard edition with all the bells and whistles. The install went clean and the BI option appears in the SQL Menu option; however, when I select the BI menu option, the system complains that it can't find the devenv.exe (visual studio) executable file. When I run VS (Orcas) the templates are also not present. According the SQL2005 Administrators guide, "If an existing version of VS already exists on the machine where SQL2005 is being installed, the BI templates will be updated into the current VS product." I've hunted high and low and have not found an answer to this question. When I installed SQL2005 on a seperate server with no existing version of VS, the install is clean and the BI (scaled down version of VS) is available.

Hi
I thought these templates were in -
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8
\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\DataTransformationProject

Hello
Thanks for the reply....
I drilled down into the folder mentioned and under DataTransformationProject found a file "DataTransformationProjectItems.vsdir as well as a folder "DataTransformationItems" within the DataTransformationItems folder exists a single file called "DtsProjectItems.vsdir".
Not sure what these files are for or what to do in VS to get the IDE to recognize and pull in the BI templates.

Oh! Forgot to mention that I installed SQL2005 Developer edition on another machine as well as the licensed VS2005 product and the BI templates are available and work fine. I guess the issue is with the ORCAS version of VS.

I'm with you Eve - I am having the same problem and can't seem to get anyone to understand that the SSIS templates are just not there!
Have you had any luck since your last posting?
Thanks,
Mike Rainey

Hi folks -
Just thought I'd add a link to the vsdir file type -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2sc7ft4a(VS.71).aspx
Apparently it has something to do with providing information for adding New Project (and New Items) to visual studio. I've never experienced the problem described. All I know is that after a sql server install (with the client components) I get a separate folder under the program folder for BIDS.
Either I'm just lucky or leading a charmed life.

I'm having the same issue, using Developer Edition, everything loaded fine. Can see Integration Services form Management Console. Have no templates whatsoever when I open Visual Studio, only one available is "blank project".
Can someone offer some help on how to get these templates in Visual Studio?
Thanks.

I think I've found a solution....in Visual Studio, click on Tools, then Options. Click on Projects and Solutions. Under user project templates, change the path to this
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems
Everything should show up. At least mine did.
