I ran into the same issue on my desktop; only SSIS and SSRS services were displayed in Cfg Mgr.
Because I saw this post, I contacted our AD guru and, sure enough, my GP was messed up.
He fixed it and I'm back in business - didn't even need to reboot. 🙂

Which group policy was messed up and what was the fix?
I'm having this exact same problem. I just recently got a new work laptop and reinstalled all my software. Now whenever I restart my machine all I see under SQL Server Services in SQL Server Configuration Manager is "There are no items to show in this view".
I have to do an uninstall and reinstall of SQL Server to get the services back but even then if I restart my machine they are removed again.
I'm using a Windows XP 32bit and SQL Server 2008 Developer edition; however, I've tried SQL 2005 and the express editions from microsoft and they all have the same problem.
I've been banging my head up against the wall for the past couple of days over this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing this trouble as well.
For database file migration project, the start-up parameters for master database has to be reset through configuration manager, but the MSSQLSERVER service is simply invisible in the display window.
Can previous posters post more specific solutions please?
Thanks in advance!

Sqlapprentice, it seems that you may be referring to me, but as I did not have this issue I can't give an explicit response other than to try what some of the others had done. For others in this thread it was a group policy that was causing their issue, since we have no idea what GPO's may be applied to your machine/user account there's not much we can do to specifically say do not apply X policy. You might try doing as one of the previous posters did which was to create a test OU with no policies applied other than the default domain policy, and add the policies that are applied to your server, one by one to see which is causing the issue. Also, you can use the Resultant Set of Policies tool to see which ones are applied and what settings they set.
Hopefully that gets you pointed in the right direction.
