Hi
I've inherritted a SQL 7 Database where there is a requirement to update a database on a different server from a trigger. I duly created my linked server and set up my trigger when I was told the Distributed transaction coordinator wasn't running. I tried to start it but have found that the msdtc.exe is missing. Is this something that is an optional install from the SQL 7 disks (assuming that I can find them ) or shoulsd it have been installed with the core SQL server ...in which case somebody has deleted the msdtc.exe ?
Cheers

On my opinion msdtc.exe comes with windows not with sql server install. So if you don't have it then if you want it simply install
I'm sure there was a KB for that purpose from microsoft. Try to google
Hope this helps

You're right Vidas thanks, I found it under the winnt\system32 directory. The service was previously pointing to an old empty MSSQL\BINN directory for some reason which led me down the path of assuming it was part of SQL Server
Cheers
