mirroring or logshipping

  • Hi

i need to setup a DR setup for database

it may be either mirroring or logshipping.

    here is the scenario:

TL backups happens every 1 hr, so mirror comes to sync in every hour.

but the client need to be sync at for every 4 hrs.

so which one is suggestable mirroring or logshipping.

    Thanks

  • check books online for differences between the two. Mirroring is a constant replication of the database, whereby log shipping is a set of scheduled operations consisting of a backup at the source and a copy and restore at the destination. Both are detailed at length in BOL

  • Good and valid replies so far.

Actually it is YOU who needs to elaborate on data loss for your business clients !

You would need to suppose they have no knowledge what data loss is and how much they can afford !

They will always go for cheap, not knowing the consequences !

I always prepare both alternatives, as well regarding data loss, as well regarding application needs at DR time !
