Hi
I have configured mirroring for databases but we follow a standard practice to keep same mirroring endpoint port number on both principal and mirrored databases . As per knowledge it doesnt affect mirroring if i keep different port number on the principal side and different port number on the mirrored side . I cant find a reason why mirroring endpoint number same should be a recommended method . Experts please suggest as i cant find anything on this context in msdn and other trusted websites
Thanks in advance

A port is a port. You could have principal on 5022 and Mirror on 65536 if you really wanted, as long as the firewalls both software and physical if required have the right ports opened.
That being said your company may have a policy to keep the number of open ports on firewalls to a minimum so only opening port 5022 might be your companies security policy.
As long as the servers can communicate the port doesn't matter, its just telling SQL where to route the traffic.
