Migrations are Worth the Effort

  • I've had to spend a lot of time with auditors.  Migrations can be useful artefacts for the auditors.

My experience has been that auditors want to see proof that you have a process and you follow it.  They only become interested in the fine grained details if they perceive gaps in the high level plans.

They may wish to observe a deployment, no matter how trivial, and possibly a rollback.

A migration that demonstrates a deployment, rollback and produces a log of what it did ticks one of the many auditors boxes.

  • Great points, and I think one of the great side effects of DevOps practices is logging and auditing of all actions.
