Migration from SQL 2005 32 bit to SQL 2008 64 bit

  • Folks:

We are planning to upgrade our Reporting Services from SQL 2005 32 bit to SQL 2008 64 bit. Question is: After the migration to SQL 2008 64 bit, will my Reporting services be able to pull data from SQL 2005 databases which will be on 32 bit?????

    Thanks !

  • Yes. the file formats, protocols, access is the same between 32 bit and 64 bit.

  • How about Reporting services on SQL Server 2005 32 bit be able to pull data from SQL Server 2008 64 bit databases?

  • SSRS of any version can pull data from SQL Server DB of any version. 32-bit and 64-bit makes no difference.

You may have problems if you want to use data types that are not known in an older version of SSRS, but if you only use data types common to both versions of SQL Server then should be no problems.
