We have a need to migrate our SQL 2005 Active/Passive cluster to a standalone config. The databases on the cluster are to be used for archive purposes and 1 server is to be repurposed for a new application. I understand we will lose the high availability and that is not an issue. I can find only a few articles and no real specifics on what to do or how to approach it. Would it be better to convert the cluster to a standalone instance of SQL or just retire one node of the cluster and convert it to a single node SQL cluster.
In addition to database services we also have analysis and integration services clustered. Reporting services is installed on a different server and connects to the SQL instance.
What is the best way to approach doing this? I am not a DBA just an accidental one.

Hi,
I think it would be better for you to keep the cluster as a single node cluster rather than go with a standalone. This would be a lot easier all you would need to do will be to drop out the passive cluster from the cluster admin.

Agree.
Just EVICT the node you are not using and your work is done.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Evicting the node worked like a champ. Thanks for the information! 😀
