Hi All, Please help/share your experience.
Here are my requirements.
Current Environment
SQL Server 2008 R2
Development environment
2 node Active/Passive cluster, Currently in standard edition
Need to upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition
What are some of the requirements/precautions that I need to go through each server/instances before I upgrade.....and what's the proper way of upgrading to enterprise edition.
Thanks in advance,
SueTons

If its a development environment why are you using standard edition instead of developer edition?

Since its on cluster, I believe developer edition won't work.

Developer edition has all of the same functionality as Enterprise edition. That includes clustering.

Planning to move to production, and might add more nodes in future.

Thanks,

Edition change is very similar to a service pack, so the same procedure applies.
Patch the passive node(s) first (ensure you disable failover first).
Failover, patch the active node.
Check your patch level as you may need to reapply service packs. I haven't don't this in a while so I cant remember.
In theory there's nothing to stop you failing over between versions whilst there are no enterprise features in use. It should be possible as the databases themselves will already be at the correct versions.

Hi Suo,
Ru upgrading the version or updating patch. When you updating patch on that time update 1st node then 2nd node but as per above discussion you are upgrading the Version..
thanks

No, I am not upgrading the versions.....I am upgrading the edition from Standard to Enterprise.
Here is something that I found on MSDN
"SQL Server in a clustered environment: You just need to run edition upgrade on a single node, you can choose to run from either an active or passive node. After running, you need to cause a failover to happen. Once the failover happens, all of the nodes along with the database engine will be updated."

Hi Sue,
First test it in Test environment because should be apply for Nodes only because In NODE1 & NODE2 store SQL Components & SAN store the DB.
I agree with other comments also....
Please do in test environment & update the status...
Thanks
Satish

Basically it means the enterprise features will be enabled after a failover to an upgraded node. There will be no engine changes
