Not sure if this is the right place to ask. We are on SQL 2000 and most of the databases are vendor developed apps. Though we do not have a direct service agreement with microsoft, all the apps and related db are vendor supported.
If Microsoft stops support for SQL 2000 in april 2008, our vendors have not come up with any migratory plan etc. We have not heard anything from them about their apps/dbs migrating to 2005 ... I understand SQL 2005 can run in 2000 compatibility mode. I am in a strange situation. Cannot uprade the dbs the vendors might not support the compatibility mode.
In other words, pls advise/ give input on your reasons to migrate to SQL2005.

Its because of the features available in SQL 2005. Generally everybody will tend to use the latest product in the market and its features. Refer these links, http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx
