Main stream support for 2000 ends in June of next year, 2010. Which, is less than a year away... Yikes!

Mainstream support for SQL 2000 ended last year August. Extended support (if you're paying for it) ends in 2013

Main stream support for SQL 2000 ended April 2008. Extended support, which can be very expensive, is until 2013.

Heh... on the flip side, who cares? If you've got system with the latest sp and some of the hot fixes and it's been up and running for a couple of years, what makes you think it'll break to the point where you need that kind of support?

am I right to assume you cannot get support for sql server 2000 SP4 now unless you have paid for it?

Yes and no. You can call and they will try to help you with SQL 2000. however no QFEs or hotfixes will be built if you have a bug or issue that requires one.
