Something seems to have gone wrong with my Microsoft Documentation.
When I load Visual Studio Documentation, SQL Books Online etc, I have access to the index and can search but cannot see the detail pages.
Has anyone come across this before?
Does anyone know how to resolve this without reinstalling the documentation?
Thanks.

Wow. That's a new one.
You say it was working before?
Has anything changed since then? Any programs removed from your box? Anything added (service packs, etc.)?
Check Windows Explorer and see if you can find the path still.

First thing I'd check is your settings. See if local help is disabled. Sounds like it might be.
Otherwise, I'd reinstall.

Ah. I forgot local help could be disabled.
But shouldn't he still be getting something from the online stuff, assuming he has a network connection?

Thanks for the replies.
Please could you explain how to enable local help?
My development machine does not have internet access. I have not changed anything on it recently although I am never quite sure what policies our infrastrucre group are applying - they claim to have done nothing.

Ken,
How are you accessing BOL? Via the program files menu or via SSMS?

Wait, nevermind.
Tools-> Options works for all.
Then go to Help -> Online.
At the top is the various types (online first or local first). On the left, underneath that, are check boxes. If "Local Help" is not checked, then check it.

Hi Brandie,
Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately Local Help was already checked. I tried removing and re-adding it to no avail.
I will have to look into this in more detail tomorrow - fortunately I know most of the methods I am using today reasonably well.

The problem has been solved by re-booting the machine.
I am feeling particularly dense today – more coffee required.
Thanks for you help.

Sounds like you had a cache problem. Happens sometimes.
No worries. Glad we could try to help, anyway. @=)

Thanks for the update. I was stumped on this, wondering what could be wrong. If it happens again, please post a note.
