Hello All,
I am running SQL Server 2000 sp3. I have setup up a merge replication on this server and the subscribers are running MSDE wit either sp1 or no sp
I would like to activate the clean up of the merged tables to improve performance on the MSDE database and to diminish the size of these MSDE database.
In the profile agent the -MetadataRetentionCleanup option is set to 1. But the distributor has been configured with a retention time = 0 (infinite)
I have two questions :
1) if I change the retention time to 14 days for instance, am I sure that the system won't reinit all the subscription ?
2) since some of my subscribers are still using a lower version then sp1, nothing should happen for those subscribers, but can I be sure that something will happen for the sp1 subscribers ?
Thank you by adavnce for your help

I can't give you a definitive answer on either question, but I would recommend that you set up a test environment to check it out. Sounds like a pain but would be worth your while. You can modify system clock settings to mimic the passage of time. This will allow you to see how things work - of course, this depends on you having the necessary hardware available.
If you do get to test it, please post your findings back here so others can learn from your experience
