I have recently been getting the error: Server TCP provider has stopped listening on port 1433 due to a failure. This is on a production system and has caused alot of turmoil. I have looked at resource allocation and all seems fine. We are running 2008 r2 standard on a box that has 16 cpu and 96 GB of ram. I have the max memory setting set to 64 gb for the instance, could this be the issue? SQL standard will only see ma 64 GB of ram, does this need to be set to something like 60GB to let sql know some is left for the OS?
