  What would be the best setting in sql 2008 for memory with 256gb RAM where only sql server is tha application on that server.

  I would leave 85% of total RAM available to SQL Server.

  Why would you leave so much ram for windows?? 38.4 Gb seems like a lot for nothing... especially if nothing else is running besides sql server db engine.

  I agree with Ninja 38GB is a lot of memory for the OS in this particular case.
