Hello,
I am a beginner to MDX; I have designed a complicated cube in a pseudo-snow flake pattern. I have three levels of fact tables... Visit, Charges, and Payments. Each table has several dimensions that relate directly to it, and based on the hierarchy (each visit has one or more charges, each charge has zero or more payments) are referenced in the other fact tables. Everything is working based on the design of the cube, but now I am creating calculated members to display more specific business concepts. This was going good, until I decided to try and get first patient visit. A patient is a dimension that relates directly to a visit. A visit date is a dimension that relates directly to a visit. I have added a measure on Patient pulling unique patients, and one on Visit Date pulling both the Min and the Max visit date. Because these are "measurements" I cannot select off of them. What I would like to do is be able to "Count All New Patients Last Month", where a new patient is defined initially as a patient on their first visit, but whose definition may change to "a patient on their first visit that contain a specific type of procedure", where the procedure is linked directly to the Charge. In order to let users change the definition of a "new patient" for what will start as historic trend reporting and move to data mining, I would like to keep the definition in SSAS, not in the staging tables. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any recommended web-sites or books?
Thanks,
Tim (MentalWhiteNoise)
