MCSA 2012 or 2016?

  • Hey all,

    I have been a DBA for about four years now and in order to help pad my resume and prove I have a fundamental understanding of SQL server, I am thinking of finally going to knock out my MCSA.

    Question is, is it still worth it to take the 2012 exams, or should I wait for the 2016 exams to get out of beta and then go take them?

    Which would help out the best in the short term if I was going to start job hunting early next spring?

    I will cross post this to the 2016 forum as well.

    Thanks!

  • I got my SQL2012/2014 MCSA in May 2016, which was probably a month before SQL2016 RTM came out.

    The official books for the three new SQL 2016 MCSA come out in January.(I pre-ordered one already)

    The new MCSA's require two exams apiece i think, where the 2012/14 requires three exams;

    but the new 2016's are more specialized in each subject matter (hence the breakout of one MCSA to three new flavors)

    I would suggest going with the latest and greatest: study for the new 2016 MCSA's, and whichever one fits your skillset.
