Regarding your blog post, Notification Services. Are you talking about Notification Services that was a part of SQL Server 2005 and dropped in SQL Server 2008 or are you talking about event notifications and query notifications?
Your question made me think of another question. First the response to your question - I meant event notifications - goofed that one. I will need to fix it.
My question is this: I believe we should test on current technology and concepts. But there is also a problem that most people are not on the current technology so it may not be applicable. Do we just question on current technology or find a middle ground? If the middle ground, I would say we could settle on testing for stuff in SQL 2005 as well.
Also, we would have to continually update the criteria with new and current technology questions and topics.

You know the car I actually miss, my brothers 1972 Chevy Vega he had when he first went into the Navy. That was a good little car.

...and here I was expecting another plug for the death trap Festiva. 😛
fyi Lynn, Tim has a lot of good articles on his blog when you get around to SSIS again. Not that I'm anything but a newbie, but well-written and easy to follow.
Wish I could jump in to help, but honestly I'm overcommitted as it is, and more importantly I'm not of a calibre to be contributing significantly. Just following along because I think you guys are voicing an important concern, and when I get around to my certifications, I would like to see this as an option.

I didn't consider the Festiva a death trap. It served me well for 3.5 years commuting to and from Denver. When I was a teenager, my brothers Vega was a just plain fun to drive. I got to use it while he was out on WestPac's.

I disagree. Input from everybody is valuable for this process.

We hope to make it a viable option for interested people. The more input we can get the better chance we will have - IMHO.

Just fyi, am not either. Am just sticking around to help in whatever ways i can, including pinging people i know for questions and trying to answer other questions, that is one way to validate the process 🙂 I am interested in this bcoz where i work they withdrew support and credit for certs a while ago (for all the reasons discussed before) and we simply don't have legitimate ways of evaluating credentials yet. The MCM again is a very tough choice for an ordinary DBA and an employed person. So they would definitely be interested in supporting something like this, so would a lot of people/companies i know of that attend my UG.

You know what would be nice, a SharePoint Site on the internet somewhere. It could have parts that are open to the public, but we could also have areas private to the main group where somethings could be kept private while being hased out a bit before publishing.
Anybody know of a free site somewhat like that we could use? Just an idea.

I also suggest we keep the 'journeyman' and replace 'Microsoft Certified' with something else...like a 'SQL Server Journeyman' perhaps..one of the comments i got on the survey was that how can you call it MS certified if MS is not going to administer it, perhaps they will let PASS use that but we don't know for sure and don't want to create any wrong impressions.
Ummm.... I wonder if RedGate would be a willing sponsor on something like this.
My dance card is pretty full but I could engage in conference calls (maybe even phone interviews but probably not during the day{which is going to be the problem for everyone}) and I can definitely write a practical style test at various levels for T-SQL/Application DBA track and some of the related System DBA things. I'm pretty good at the test thing.... certified Navy Instructor in electronics, digital logic, and microprocessors and I wrote a 200 hour (not a misprint... 200 hours) course on those subjects for the Navy including all of the testing both multiple-guess and practical (ie, hands on).
Before all of that, though, we need a list of required skills by track.

I like the idea. I think it would need to be a site not blocked by the internet police. Just a thought.

A free site may be hard to come by..unless someone steps up to be a sponsor. A free blog might be easy, limited in usage but easy.

Dang, forgot about the Internet Police. That could be a problem. WebSense can be a big pain.

If not RedGate, would Quest?
There is a working list of areas for the exam that I compiled on my blog. Would that be a suitable starting point, or do we need to get more granular (I believe I know that answer)?
