MCJ - The Missing Link

  • Tim Mitchell (4/20/2010)

Add me to those interested in seeing this succeed. I'm available with 2-3 hours per week - possibly more after little league baseball season wraps up next month.

    Awesome. Welcome aboard.

    Up to 6! I think 2 to 4 more and we'll set!

I'm not committing Jeff or Wayne - but I think both of them are in.

  • Do we have anyone onboard yet that is fairly strong with SSIS/SSAS/SSRS?

  • We could also use someone like Gail, need someone strong on the database corruption side as well. Think she'd join us also?

And yes. I realize she is busy with her Masters and that takes precedence.

No - one might be able to get Stacia Misner to assist there. She is quite the guru on the BI side (SSAS, SSRS, not sure on SSIS). This is here-say but she and her daughter both said the BI exams for MCITP are way below par. I think I will ping her and ask.

Yep - I work in BI and can contribute in that area.

She would be extremely helpful with it. I think Grant would also be a very good resource.

Awesome! That means I now have a resource also when I start diving back into SSIS (when I find the time to improve our current packages).

I really need to learn more about dynamic packages (we have a dynamic solution in place that is good for multiple servers, but not for multiple instances should we go that direction for a development/qa environment) and more robust error handling (need to learn more in that area as well).

  • Okay, downer feeling. I feel like a jack of all trades master of none again. But I'm okay with that, actually. Back up again!!

    Most excellent.

Have you taken the MCITP for the BI stuff? What were your impressions?

  • I just finished a recap of where we stand. Let me know if I missed something and I will add it.

  • Very well summarized Jason!! I will pass it around to my team today.

1 On the naming - using 'sql server' is much unlikely to be as difficult as calling it 'microsoft certified' which it is not. Either way there would definitely be disclaimers attached and permission has to be sought. Brainbench used to run some certs for MS products before, am wondering if anyone recalls what they called it?

2 Can we summarize the agenda/mission statement for this volunteer group? A question bank yes, but anything else? I can definitely ping a lot of experts for questions (they may not have time to volunteer necessarily but would be more than happy to donate good questions). If we have an agenda that helps to introduce what we are doing and then easily ask for help.

    Thanks.

Regarding your blog post, Notification Services. Are you talking about Notification Services that was a part of SQL Server 2005 and dropped in SQL Server 2008 or are you talking about event notifications and query notifications?

    Edit: Dang Quote Bug!

    2. Good idea. Now who wants to work on a mission statement? I have never been very good at writing those.

I think we should each attempt one (by the way, I confuse Mission Statements with Vision Statements sometimes), then work from there.
