Also, it seems that we have a bunch of lurkers watching the discussions while not participating. I hear of more and more everyday - and they all agree that there should be something in between MCITP and MCM. How do we get them to lend their opinion on any of the topics that we have proposed?
Seems to me one of the best ways is to just keep on talking about it, writing about it, blogging about it. There will always be people who will sit on the sidelines waiting to see if something looks like it's going to succeed or fail before they're willing to lend a hand. I can understand not wanting to waste time on something that won't see the light of day. Things like that happen entirely too often in the IT industry as it is. It's why I think that the more we talk about it the more people we can get involved the better the chance that it will succeed. Additionally, once we have a collaboration site up and can really start hammering away at some of the issues It will be easier to point to them and say this is where we are. This is what's been done. Come help with the rest.

Luke - you make some very good points there. We just got a major plug today from Brent on his blog; maybe we can get others to start talking about it?
Steve, is there any way of telling if these threads got any spike after Brent blogged about this?

If it is any indication, my two blogs on the topic (that had links to the threads) saw spikes today. The more recent blog saw a significantly higher spike than the older one.
The other two articles that he mentioned also saw significant spikes today.
If they see spikes like that - I would hope that these threads saw some big spikes.

After catching some interesting posts on the water cooler, I think I have another reason to revoke the certification -- plagiarism. I don't think we can have people holding the SCCJ certification that show a serious lack of ethics.

I agree. For cases like what was found last night - one would need to provide evidence about the plagiarism. Since it was taken down so quickly - screenshots are a must.

Okay, so anyone want to tackle a Code fo Ethics, or should we look at what other organizations have done like ACM?

We only need 3 rules... I'll try to write them up tonight.

The Oath and Pledges of the ______________ (insert the correct name of the certification. For example, if the name of the certification is indeed "MCJ", then insert MCJ on the blank line. If I had my way, every DBA and Developer would make this pledge.)
1. Above all else, I am a servant only to the data and, either by action or inaction on my part or on the part of others, I will cause no harm nor allow harm to come to the data, the server(s), the media the data resides on, or the proper state or operation in which any item or method exists in its service to the safety, security, accuracy, or the proper and performant delivery of the data only to those authorized to access or receive it.
2. I will protect and guard the privacy of individuals’ data and work in their best interests and keep such interests and data secret provided such interests are moral, ethical, do not interfere with the privacy of other individuals, are not contrary to existing laws, and are not contrary to the sanctity and preservation of the data as stated in the first pledge above.
3. I will protect and guard the privacy of my previous, current, and future employer’s mission and data, work in their best interests, and keep such missions, interests, and data secret provided such missions and interests are moral, ethical, are not contrary to existing laws, and are not contrary to the two pledges above.

There should be a 4th item, regarding plagiarism in the publishing of professional/technical information such as articles, presentations, etc. This is important as well considering the various copyright issues that have been discussed recently.

Nope... that's covered in pledge #2. It's not working "in their best interests" to plagerize nor is it moral or ethical. It's also "contrary to existing laws".

Jeff, I agree that it is implicitly covered. However, I agree with Lynn that it needs to be explicitly stated. Perhaps as I amended above?
