Just passed the MCTS 70-432 and looking to move onwards with the 70-450 exam: Designing, Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Administrative Solution Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
There are no MS Press books out until well into the new year by the looks of things, does anyone know some good training materials/books that would help me delve into some of the aspects of this exam?
Thanks

Books Online?
Not joking, it's what I used for the beta exams.

You know, that might not be a bad idea at all. I've used it for a resource and have found it vastly superior to previous versions.
There are areas in which I am strong, and I know the areas of weakness that I need to put the majority of my focus on, BOL could certainly work out.
Thanks for he suggestion, I wouldn't have thought of it, even though it was right in front of my face.

I'm starting to study for 432. Is it just multiple choice or are there simulations/case studies? Would studying from transcender be sufficient? I've passed the SQL 2005 admin test already.
thanks!

You do need to be familiar with the new 2008 features. Whether Transcender's good enough, I can't say. Never seen their test exam.
Check the requirements list on the MS website and make sure you're comfortable with all the sections.

Thanks Gail. I'm also taking the upgrade class so I think I should be ok. Are there simulations/case studies in the test or is it just multiple choice. I don't see that in the test information page on MS site.

It's multiple choice, but some of the questions are so long that they're almost case studies by themselves.

Is the MC Press book good enough to prepare for the 70-432 Exam? I have seen a couple of bad reviews about in on Amazon.com

CBT NUGGET has a Training Package for 70-450, it looks very professional, but I haven't tried to take the 70-450 exam yet, still studding..

Also if you check http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exams/70-450.aspx you will see a link of "Self Test Software" in "Preparation Materials" section at the bottom of the page. It could be from the "inside" if it is sponsored at the official MS site and be a good preparation guide to succeeding the exam!

I've passed the upgrade exam back in Jan and the only real differenced between 2005 and 2008 as far as the exam was concerned was Spatial Data, Compression, CDC and Partitions.

How long before 2008 adoption starts to outpace 2005? I'm currently studying for the 2005 MCITP and will then take the upgrade exam at some point, that is unless 2008 will soon shoot past 2005 in new implementations (although there are a lot of 2005 systems that will stay that way for awhile).

Hi,
MCTS 70-432 is no way enought for the certification, as a matter of fact the Test Simulations part of the book cant be answered by just reading the Book, MSDN is a great source. I had to create my own notes for it too. Finally done but one thing for sure the book does helps in deciding how much topics you should cover.
Thanks

i was going to take 2005 this year, but will do 2008 instead. we don't run it, but it's close enough that i can just learn the new features for the test. well worth it since the cert will last a few years longer
