Hi guys,
Quick question...
we have just added more memory to our x64 SQL 2005 EE box to take it from 16gb to 32gb. Post installation of the RAM the max memory was still at around 15GB. Having changed this now to 30GB, SQL is still only using 15GB. Does the service\server need a restart to effect this change? The databases in use amount to well over 100GB so it should be able to utilise the free memory.
Thanks,
James

Jimmy,
After you changed the max memory did you run reconfigure? you need to run it. SQL will then grab the additional memory when it needs it.
If you were using 16mb you probably have the right settings in the boot.ini file.

We just changed it in the managment studio GUI. Instead, I'll run the RECONFGIURE statement.
Many thanks for your reply.

Check the PAE switch in Boot.ini and Enable AWE in sql, with locked pages in memory using local security settings MMC.
