I was thinking to suggest MS to have maxdop option in maintenance plan – rebuild index task. After searched SQL Connect feedback form, I found a similar feedback there already. It was posted for near 2 years already. MS says “will consider this for an enhancement in a future release”. I thought that it would be added in SQL2008. After I checked SQL2008 February CTP, it is not implemented yet.
Maxdop is very useful for index maintenance especially for OLTP database. It would be nice to have this feature visible in DBA maintenance task like the other options (online indexing, sort in tempdb).
I would like to know how the other DBAs think. If it is necessary to have this option, you may raise your voice at SQL Connect

Interesting concept. It could prove useful. I've voted for it.

Thank you Grant. MS responded to use SQL Server 2008 Resource Governor as an answer yesterday.

While that does make some sense and might get people to use the Resource Governer, I'm not sure I like that since this is an Enterprise Only feature.
Hopefully it will get to Standard Edition by 2011.
