I have a matrix that give counts of widgets broken out by month (rows) and investor (columns). When I run the same query the report uses in management studio, I get different numbers. For example, the report says 1083 for investor X in September, but the data in management studio says 1196 for the same criteria. Has anyone run into this behavior, or have an idea of what may be going on?

I'd start with doublechecking the ssrs is looking at the correct database and doesn't have a filter you aren't seeing. After that I forget if data cache'ing can cause this issue, but it would depend on how recently the data got modified.
