Managing Alerts in SQL Server 2005

  • Hello fellow gurus!

I have only recently started to use/test/explore SQL Server 2005.

For countless years I have been using SQL Server 7 and 2000 and gotten use to the layout of the Enterprise Manager but as you know that has all changed in 2005 (God knows why).

In earlier versions you can display a summary window of all the alerts setup in that SQL Server instance which included the alert's name, last occurred and count to name a few.  However, I don't seem to be able to do this in 2005.

Am I missing something?  Is it possible to have this summary window in 2005?

    Thanks

  • Ok I have to take this off my chest.

SQL 2005 "Management Studio" is in my opinion one of the worst piece of software ever written. The effort on the Back-end was really impressive but on the Fron-End "awful" is not good enough to describe it.

How in the world would you release a new version that does less (or worse) things than the old one did ?

  • I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one that thinks this.

However, has anyone found a way round this or should I just give up?

  • exec msdb.dbo.sp_help_alert

The simplicity of this is what reinforces even more the idea of a rushed UI on SQL Server 2005. How hard was to provide that? ....

By the way this things will only make me better with system stored procedures anyway and that has been the answer for each and everyone of the ridiculos implementation cases that were put together by M$.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks Noel.
