In sql 2000 once a database was registered using client tools it stayed in EM.
In 2005, I have to re-register each time. Is there a way to
avoid having to do this?
Thanks.

Nope, as far as I know.

Are you sure you are looking at the "Registered Servers" window and not the "Object Explorer" window?

In 2005 it is the object explorer window. The registered servers are displayed there. Hope that helps.

That's the problem.
The registered servers are not displayed in the "Object Explorer" window.
There is a "Registered Servers" window that you need to display Ctrl+Alg+G or select it from the view menu.

On my desktop the servers are displayed in the Object Explorer. When I view the registered servers, all I see is the database engine.
I'll do some homework later.

Object Explorer displays a treeview that you can navigate any servers you have an open connection to. Registered servers is where you register a server so you do not need to re-enter the connection information.
If you have additional questions, look in books online.
