Hi all, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place at this forum, so I'll let you know what I'm looking to do, and maybe you can give me some suggestions as to how I should proceed.
I'm looking to make a report that looks like this:
creatorName1
-------------
1) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
2) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
3) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
4)
.
.
.
n)
creatorName1 Stats:
Count of records by creatorName1
Count of "complete" Records by creatorName1 (where all desired fields are filled in)
Percentage of creatorName1 records complete
creatorName2
-------------
1) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
2) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
3) FirstName LastName Email Address Picture + other fields
4)
.
.
.
n)
creatorName2 stats:
Count of records by creatorName2
Count of "complete" Records by creatorName2 (where all desired fields are filled in)
Percentage of creatorName2 records complete
I have my DB, have WinMySQLAdmin 1.4 and downloaded the trial version of EMS SQL Manager 2005 for MySQL, but I'm not getting the report to work in EMS just yet. I sorted on unique creatorName, put it in a header report band, and I put a few fields in a details band...well, I keep getting a blank report.
I'm exploring alternatives for how I can get this report to work...tools, software, queries...whatever I need.
Best wishes,
Dainis

Dainis,
You posted in the forum "Anything that is NOT about SQL!" "NOT" being the keyword. You might try posting this over at Reporting Services or somesuch.

Thanks for the replies. I understand that I posted in a "NOT" about SQL area, and "Reporting Services" sounds like a better fit.
Since there are so many kinds of "SQL," I posted here, just to gain some perspective about how to continue.
I've made progress.
1) I can almost test CaseStudio 2 (some ODBC issues)
2) I've tested EMS SQL Manager for MySQL, and although they were very helpful initially, support has lagged, and I'm not sure the software can perform what I need.
3) IntelliVIEW Designer 3.0 Installed quickly and a support/sales person called me from India and got me up and running. The package seems very fast, and I can see the data the way I would like. I'm not sure about Import/Export capabilities yet, and XML view doesn't exist yet, but I was told it's coming up in the next release.
4) I almost have VisualMining configured, but there have been some install issues. The tech crew at VisualMining has been very responsive so far.
That's it for now, if the administration would like to move this thread, please drop me a line so I can find it again.
Best wishes,
Dainis

Quick update below
--------------------------------------------------------------
Tools I've come across:
EMS SQL Manager 2005 for MySQL
--Good early support from their tech team, support then stopped completely, then started up again...not getting the import or the report to work.
CS2
---Reverse Engineers, but the reports don't seem to provide data analysis.
Database Tour
---For some reason, it connects to the database, but does not show any data
Foxy SQL
---I can't seem to get this to work
IntelliVIEW
---Worked immediately, great support...looks like I can create the kinds of reports I need, but they only sell a 5-pack user license. They don't sell single-user licenses, so, unless the company changes their policy, we can't use their tool.
VisualMining
---Good support, haven't got the tool working yet.
NetChartsDesigner
---Haven't gotten the DB connection to work in this tool yet.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Ideally, the same tool would also allow me to import and export data in various formats (including XLS). Otherwise, I'd use another tool.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Might investigate these tools:
Navicat
SQLYog

Cognos-Impromptu Web Reports
Neural networks software
--------------------------------------------------------------
Best,
Dainis
