Maintenance Plans / SQL Job Owners In SQL2005

  • In SQL 2005, I have created several Maint plans and have assigned the owner as a Domain account with fixed server role Sysadmin priveleges.

However, when I go into the Step itself, the Run As: is specified as the SQL Server Agent account. This account is a Domain Account again, but different to the one above with no login to SQL Server.

What is the difference between the Owner and Run As? Which takes precedence? and is the fact that the SQL Server Service account has no log in to SQL Server the best practice?

    Regards

    Steve

  • hi,

As far as I remember SQL2000 jobs always runs under the context of the service account... usually you would make the agen and the server service accounts the same.

However, looking at books online for 2005, you can assign a proxy account for the individual job steps.

    cheers.
