We are running SQL Server 2005 EE 64-bit SP3 on Windows Server 2003 R2 EE (64-bit). I am having a problem with the Database Maintenance Cleanup Task in a Maintenance Plan. Under "Delete files based on the age of the file at task run time" and "Delete files older than the following" I have selected "7 days". However, I noticed all of a sudden eight backups are being retained. This has occurred before; it would start randomly retaining eight backups instead of seven backups. Why? How to correct it?
Thanks in advance, Kevin

I have seen this happen regularly with the maintenance task.
I don't have an answer how to fix the maintenance task. I do have an alternative that you could use.
