Hi, I have a database with 4 datafiles.
They are sized 60GB each, but only 50% (i.e. 25GB of data) for each datafile is used .
I need to shrink all datafiles down to 75%, so they should end to 45GB each.
After the shrink, the data in each datafile should again be 25GB.
I noticed that after shrinking, data are somewhat moved to other datafiles (I didn't understand under which circumstances).
I am able to perform a index rebuild during weekeds.
I also noticed though that even after index rebuild, data are not spread equally between the 4 datafiles. Is there a traceflag I should use? Any other tip?
Your assistance would be greately appreciated.
Thank you

if your datafiles are equal in space then data will be spread almost equally. The different will not be mush to cry out for.

They currently are.
I shrink the first datafile, then this will have a different size, until I complete the shrink of all 4 datafiles.
I'm almost sure that when I tried this the last time, the data moved between datafiles.
