Mail from SQL confilicts with personal mail

  • I am trying to test out the setting up of mail to notify when a job has completed.  I have SQL running in a separate account (SQLAdmin) which has a mail profile,  the maintenance of SQL is done through my personal account  (all this is on an XP machine).

I can start up my login and run EM, start SQL and SQLAgent and run a job which emails but if I then try to open up my personal mail I get a password box that won't accept any known passwords. If I then shut SQLAgent down I can open my mailbox.  I then re-start SQLAgent and try to test the mail profile I get the following message:

Error 22022: SQLServerAgent error: Unable to get the default MAPI message store due to MAPI error 273: The information store could not be opened.

Can anyone tell me what's going on here and if what I'm trying to do is possible?

  • I think you should log in as SQLAdmin to do your maintenance to avoid the conflict.  Your personal login should has access to the sqladmin mail box, but sqladmin should not has access to your personal mail box, because it is shared among a group of people.

I don't have xp running so I don't know if it would caused by xp security mix up.

  • I think the SQLAdmin only has access to the SQLAdmin mailbox and my personal one only has access to my personal  mail box.  It seems strange that i can't run EM from my login.

  • I recommend against using SQLMail altogether for this reason, the requirement of an active mailbox.  Try POSTIE.EXE ( http://www.infradig.com/index.html&nbsp
