Magic Table

  • Does anyone know what 'Magic Table' means, I was asked this recently in an interview......

  • Not in SQL Server - but perhaps it's something to do with Magic Software ???, check out:

The absence of consumable DDL, sample data and desired results is, however, evidence of the absence of my response

  • The magic tables are the virtual tables available in a trigger:

ie the [INSERTED] and [DELETED] tables, which can be referenced within a trigger so that you can add additional logic based on the values of the rows being inserted or deleted.

Microsoft does not call them magic tables, by the way. dunno where the name started from. pretty crappy question to ask a candidate, if you ask me.

  • CM - I'm curious - are you by any chance from India ?! For some weird reason (unless it's coincidence) I've come across 2 posts referring to these "magic tables" and both post(ers) are from India...

Well, I too thought it was such a wierd thing to ask......... when in fact there are a lot of mind cracking questions to be asked in SQL Server....

  • I could use a dose of magic from time to time !

If most people are not willing to see the difficulty, this is mainly because, consciously or unconsciously, they assume that it will be they who will settle these questions for the others, and because they are convinced of their own capacity to do this. -Friedrich August von Hayek

  • PFM = 'pure f**king magic'

    analogous to the FM box
