  This is a SqlServer 7 / 2000 forum, are you using a later release ?

  Then you may find a recursive CTE performs better over large dataset

  Totally agree.

  Flattened BOM is what is being described.

  We do this for all models, as there are other questions - like if I change 1 part, what top level models or sub assemblies would be affected?
