Looking to Upgrade the Development Server

  • Hello,

I have this project to upgrade one existing machine which is running Windows Server 2003, Specs of the machine are

    Intel Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz.

    2.79 GHz. 0.99 GB RAM

I have a option here to add the memory and the DRIVE,

I am not sure what is better option to have internal drive or go for Firmware External Drive,

I want to know if there is any issue with the speed for the External one,

I will be great if someone can assist me with which are the better External Drives with OK Speed,

    Thanks,

    Dev

  • 1 GB RAM is small. You may need more.

If you are talking about SAN drive, it is better but more expensive.

  • Hello,

I will upgrade the memory to 2GB,

but for the drive money is the issue, I am looking to spend somewhere around 400 dollors

    Please Advice

  • Internal Drives are definately better, instead of hanging a external via usb or firewire port. Are your drives IDE or SCSI?

This does not sound like a robust dev system, but that all depends on what type of development you are using the system for.

Either way, you should be able to find a decent size IDE drive for 400, if it's SCSI then well EBAY is your friend as you can usually pick up some cheap drives there (I did it for my home dev server).

    And definately upgrade the RAM

    Good luck

  • Thanks,

It is ATA, I think I should go for internal,

    regards,
