Long sleep_task waits finalizing log restores

  • I'm configuring TDE for a database in an availability group.

created keys and cert on primary, created key and created the cert from the primary cert backup.

The full database restore on the secondary finished in about 30 minutes (~350GB backups).

The log restore however, is taking considerably longer than expected. The log backup is only 1.65GB and restored in 3 minutes, but the process itself has been spinning its wheels for 25  minutes. now. Its just not completed the restore. Its suspended with a sleep_task wait type.

    Thoughts?

  • Anything in the error log? I wouldn't expect this to take this long, but it sounds like something might have hung.

    I'm assuming you:
created DMK in master on primary, created cert in master on primary, created DEK on database on primary. Backed up  cert from master on primary.
Created a DMK in master on secondary replica nodea. Created a certificate from the backup in master on secondary.
    Restored database on secondary.
