Login Issue

  • Hi,

One of our servers is in domain domain1.

I have sysadmin rights and i am part of domain2.

I am able to login to the server remotely as well as by physically login into the box.

One of my collegues is in a different country and is a part of domain3. His group also has sysadmin rights on this server.

But he is not able to login to the server.

Error message he is getting is:

    --------------------------------

    Cannot connect to server MyServer,2431

An error has occured while establishing connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, Error: 0 - No such host is known) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 11001)

    ---------------------------------

Server is running on port 2431.

What could be possible cause of this error and solution?

  • This is a name resolution issue (networking configuration related). Give him the IP address and have him try to connect via IP,port. If he's able to do so, then he needs to talk to the folks that handle his DNS servers. Likely they can guide him in the correct direction. If he gets a different error, they may have connectivity blocked between your server and his client.

  • Thanks Brian. I will ask the user to connect using using IP and provide you with the results.
