I have installed the SQL server on a local machine and I used windows auth only. Somehow after installation I am not able to connect the server and it fails with "Login Failure"
- I am part of administrators group on the machine and by default SQL configures bulitin\adminsitators as sysadmin but I am not sure why it is giving login failure?
- The strange thing is I can restart sql services on the machine.
- How can I add bulitin\administrators group to sql from sqlcmd as I cannot get in through GUI?

Thanks Steve.
I have NOT tried using single user mode but I changed UAC setting to minimum level possible and restarted my machine and it worked.
Is it a bug in win 7 or Is it supposed to be like that?

I didn't have that issue on Win 7, but I'm not on a domain. If anything, I would guess it's a firewall or UAC limitation that kicked in, perhaps because of a security patch?

its new laptop and version I installed is developer and I have enabled automatic updates on the system but not sure if this caused the issue.
