I have implemented log shipping to different servers in 2000 and 2005. I tried to implement log shipping from 1 instance to another but on the same server. I've read this is possible but I haven't been able to do it. It keeps failing on the restore to the secondary instance.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

John, what errors are you receiving. I've setup log shipping to both a second instance and a different database on the same instance.

Hi Sugesh, Phil and Deepak,
I'm new to posting here and put this under the 2000/7 and not 2005 Administration. I will look over the thread in 2005 and get back to you. BTW: This is running on XP Pro if that matters. Thanks for all the help.

I found out the problem. I first did this by backing up the database and restoring it to the Secondary instance THEN going to set up log shipping. You're supposed to be able to do this.
It tried norecovery, not standby state as before and it worked.
So I blew away the database and used log shipping gui to start this up from scratch and it worked in standby. No permission or user changes.
One warning though, with standby mode if it isn't set to log off connections during the restores, if there are any other connections the restore will fail.
