    Hi,

Only Tlogs affect the log shipping and even if one file is missing the secondary server goes out of synch. Full/Diff databases backups doesnt affect the log shipping.

I wonder what does it made you to think though?

  • i posted this same question on another forum and came across the following article. according to that full backups break the backup sequence of log shipping.

That article is a little bit misleading. The article is trying to illustrate a possible use of the COPY_ONLY option when backing up a database.

However, if there had a been a failure at 4pm you wouldn't try and restore the backup from 12am and then restore a differential from 12pm, knowing that you'd recently taken a full backup at 11am. The point of differential backups is that they backup all of the changes since the last full backup. And since the last full backup was at 11am the natural course of action to take would be to restore the 11am backup first (not the 12am backup).

Anyway, the point is that full backups and differential backups don't break the sequence of log shipping.

You are going track out of your original question. Also, The article explains about the COPY_ONLY when I have seen at a glance(dint read the whole article through).

AS advised above the Full/Differential backup doesnt break the log shipping.

  • What i actually wanted to know was an alternative way to make a full and differential backup without affecting log shipping(as i believed it does affect log shipping). But as you and karl have explained may be i should look into this more deeply..

Thank You so much for all your replies 🙂 will try this out once more.
