log file growth

  • I could find my DBs log file growth is huge and it reached 100GB now with 90% utilization rate, Currently there are no active transaction so I trigerred a full backup and it reduced the utilization. Can anyone tell me why full backup reduces log file utilization.. I couldn't understand that

My Db is in simple recovery model

  • Did you recently switch from full to simple?

If you had no long-running active transactions that does not make sense.

Great explanation on tran logs here (http://www.sqlshack.com/beginners-guide-sql-server-transaction-logs/[/url])

  • How often are you backing up your database?
