Log Chains

  • The first couple of rows of LogInfo is kinda useless when the problem is at the end of the file...

    Could be that the VLF sizes are such that it can't shrink to 500 exactly, but to a size above it or a size below it. But can't tell anything for sure without seeing the log info.

  • Can't see the size of the VLFs there, but looks like the last one starts just before 500MB and ends, I would guess, at the 534 the log shrunk to. VLFs can't be resized, so you shrink to the end VLF that straddles the size you requested.

    In short, it's not surprising for a log file to shrink to similar to what you asked for, but not exact, because of the VLFs.
