    Hi

    i have installed sql express on a desktop and i want to set up a database on that computer.

    is there something else i need to do after the installation to have a server instance on my desktop?

    after install you can check if the service is started and then connect using SSMS , if post insall the summary shows just green Tick marks then you dont need to do anything else, keep in mind SQL express comes with a cut down version of features so make sure you are using the right installer.
